FFS Supervisory Ecologist Ilana Abrahamson is the recipient of the 2021 Regional and National Gifford Pinchot Award for Excellence in Interpretation and Conservation Education. This award recognizes accomplishments in developing interpretive and educational programs. The work of these awardees engages community members through world-class visitor services, strengthens local partnerships to address resource issues, and cultivates the next generation of Public Land stewards.
Ilana received her award for leading FireWorks, an educational program that teaches wildland fire science to over 1,400 students in grades K-12 and 300 adults each year through grade appropriate activities and educator workshops. Ilana was selected as the National Gifford Pinchot “Excellence in Interpretation and Conservation Education” Award winner. Recipients were honored at a virtual awards ceremony with their professional peers during the National Association for Interpretation’s Annual Conference on Thursday, December 2, 2021.
