On December 4, 2013 RMRS Research Forester Mark Finney, Missoula, received the Region 1 Regional Forester’s Award for Excellence in Science and Technology for his science leadership in fire research and development. The award recognizes an individual, work unit or group whose research has had a significant impact on the advancement of science or development and application of technology. Mark’s research spans the gamut from local consultation to processes used in national and international fire support systems. His work has a profound influence on fire management in the United States as well as internationally.
