TreeMap, Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) data, and the Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS) form an “analysis ecosystem” where spatially explicit estimation of forest characteristics can be made for current or future conditions. TreeMap takes the detailed forest measurements made on the network of FIA plots across the continental US and imputes these across the landscape, yielding a seamless tree-level model of the forests of CONUS. Because an FIA plot is imputed for each 30x30m forested pixel, calculations of carbon, number of live and dead trees, etc. can be extracted or computed from the FIA database (FIADB). These calculations can also be made using FVS, by using it to compute metrics from FIA plot data, including many that aren’t readily accessible through FIADB. Estimation of carbon emitted from wildfire or which trees would be logged during a thinning project can also be accomplished in FVS. We show some examples of how these calculations can be done. In addition, we also showcase 1) a new visualization tool for TreeMap where users can see CONUS-wide maps of ~20 attributes including forest type and live and dead tree carbon, 2) a new data download tool, and 3) a new Google Earth Engine catalog.
