The Missoula Fire Sciences Lab

Supporting research to develop a greater understanding of wildland fire

Fire, Fuel, and Smoke Science Program

Crown fire in a scots pine stand within the Chernobyl exclusion zone during a wildland fire in August 2015. Radionuclide emissions from this and other recent fires have been detected thousands of miles from Chernobyl.

The RMRS Fire, Fuel, and Smoke Science Program (FFS) conducts national and international cutting-edge work in wildland fire research. The FFS Program manages the Missoula Fire Sciences Lab.
